The Nutritional Therapy program is unique because it is based on a foundational approach to nutrition. A nutritional therapist is a paraprofessional certified to do functional evaluations in order to make nutritional recommendations to balance body chemistry and achieve optimal wellness. We use specific tools for assessing the body’s nutritional deficiencies and will help you address those weaknesses through diet, supplements and lifestyle changes. These tools include an initial interview, food journals, an extensive NAQ (nutritional assessment questionnaire), a functional evaluation (physical exam) and lingual-neuro testing of supplements.
Nutritional therapists know that health is built on certain biochemical foundations. These foundations are: digestion, blood sugar balance, mineral balance, fatty acid balance and hydration. The ultimate foundation that leads to optimal health is a diet of properly prepared, nutrient dense whole foods. Weaknesses in the foundations lead to the degenerative health problems that plague our world today.
In addition to our foundational approach, the nutritional therapists emphasize three additional perspectives:
* First is the allegiance to the teachings of such pioneering greats as Dr. Weston A. Price and Dr. Francis M. Pottenger, Jr. two of the greatest scientific minds ever to research nutrition, food and its’ effects on modern society. Their work is the basis for the NTA’s core belief in properly prepared, nutrient dense whole foods.
* Second is the NTA’s fundamental belief in bio-individuality; our genetic and geographical makeup can determine our unique nutritional needs.
* Third, we offer a system of evaluative measurements that help identify nutritional weaknesses in the body. Our Functional Evaluation technique allows the Practitioner to address the nutritional needs of their clients, assess their biochemical individuality and make tailored diet and lifestyle recommendations.
Nutritional Therapists participate in a rigorous course curriculum that includes anatomy and physiology, basic chemistry concepts, and the science of food and its' nutritional components. They also learn how to identify and address imbalances in the body and how to intervene with nutrition for improving overall health and wellness.
